What's the plan?

Plan: Go Green 10-Block
Description: 10 meals to use at Ville Grill over the course of the semester. The 10-block can be added to any meal plan, and a portion (no less than 1 percent) will be dedicated to a campus sustainability fund. The Go Green meal plan is a semesterly plan for fall and spring (cannot be used during the summer). All meals expire at the end of each semester.
Price: $77.30 per each 10-block of meals. You may purchase multiple blocks of 10.
Average "Meal" Cost: $7.73

Who can "go green"?

Everyone! Faculty and staff may purchase as many blocks as they would like to create their own meal plan for the semester or students may supplement their current meal plan and purchase it as an addition.

The Go Green 10-Block, as an independent plan or as a plan addition, cannot be added to a tuition account and must be purchased through the Cardinal Card Office.

What makes this plan green?

Ville Grill is the most sustainable dining venue on campus. Here are just a few examples:

• Between composting pre-consumer food waste and using zero disposable containers (no paper cups or plastic forks here) Ville Grill contributes very little to the landfill.
• Guests enjoy locally-grown fruits and vegetables when in season. Sodexo supports over 700 local farms across the country! In our contracts, Sodexo requires fresh produce suppliers to source fresh fruits and vegetables from the same state or region whenever possible.
• Our milk comes from local dairies which do not treat their cows with artificial hormones.
• You can walk or ride your bike to the Ville Grill, eliminating the need to use gas and reducing pollution caused by driving.
• Sodexo chefs are trained in waste minimization techniques designed to reduce food waste and energy use. Turning on kitchen equipment in the main kitchen just in time to feed a large group of students is more energy efficient than every student turning on an oven and other equipment in hundreds of kitchens.
• Nutritional information is available for menu items, so you have the information available to make healthy choices.
• The Sodexo team provides educational opportunities and fun events to teach more students about making sustainable choices. Examples include "Give Green a New Meaning," implementing trayless dining and much more is planned for the upcoming semesters. Be sure to check our Events and Promotions calendar.
• Sodexo works with our suppliers to reduce packaging and purchase food and other products in reusable and/or bulk containers whenever possible to reduce waste. An example of a product with reduced packaging is the Apex dishwashing detergent we use on campuses across the country.
• Sodexo has been recognized by many external groups as a leader in sustainability. Key recognitions include Sodexo recently being named by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index as the sustainability leader in the hospitality business for the sixth time and for the third consecutive year. Sodexo has also earned recognition from Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) by being named the 2010 sector leader and a 2010 gold class winner in the 2010 Sustainability Yearbook.
